The Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility
The National Credit Union Recognition Program recently bestowed three awards on
Valley Credit Union for the second year in a row. We won first place among California
credit unions with $200 million or more in assets in two categories - the Dora Maxwell
award for fostering diversity in the workplace and the community.
Our Dora Maxwell entry went on to win second place at the national level, awarded
by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
In 2002, we were acknowledged for our commitment to being a multicultural financial
institution that serves the diverse needs of our community, with special recognition
of our new Mi Pueblo branch that is bringing much needed financial services and education
to the financially-underserved Hispanic community in San Jose and beyond.
In 2003, we were acknowledged for mentoring a new credit union - The People's Community
Partnership Federal Credit Union - located in West Oakland, which is one of the region's
poorest neighborhoods. This area previously had no traditional banking facilities.
50 Best Places To Work
For the third consecutive year, we have been named one of the top 50 best
places to work in Silicon Valley by the San Jose Magazine. VCU was cited for its wide
variety of innovative employee benefits, including our Babies in The Workplace Program.
We are very pleased to receive this recognition because it underscores our belief
that a good working environment for employees results in quality service for our members.
